Remembering God’s Grace
September 19th, 2010
It’s been four years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I still see my oncologist twice a year, and my surgeon once a year. A couple of weeks ago I passed the blood work done by the oncologist with flying colors, and I’m hoping for the same result when I’ll see my surgeon on Wednesday for my MRI, mammo, and exam.
Cancer leaves more than physical scars; it also leaves one’s world a bit tilted in a way you never expected. Of course I’m looking forward to that annual “every thing is great” pronouncement from dear Dr. Ihde, but I also know from experience that if for some reason the pronouncement isn’t what I expect, there is One who is with me and will see me through.
I’m not one to reread old journal entries, especially those from my 2006 battle with cancer, but this morning for reasons I’m not sure of, I did pull up one dated July 31, 2006. I wrote it before my surgery during some of the darkest days of testing after my diagnosis. The message is still precious to me, and I thought I would share it for those who might be going through dark times of your own today: http://www.dianenoble.com/journal/2006/07/
This week I read a powerful post written by author Lynn Dove, a sister cancer survivor, that I would like to pass along to you. Her thoughts are precious to me as I’ve come to know her through her journals. This one is particularly meaningful: http://lynndove.wordpress.com/2010/09/16/heart-scars/ I encourage you to take a few minutes and read it. Her words are “God-breathed” and you will be blessed.
Sunday morning joys to all!

I am truly humbled by your kind words, Diane. We are sisters on this journey together. My life verse is “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps”. Prov. 16:9
I live that verse out daily. We do not always know why we must journey through the unpleasant as well as the pleasant, but His plan and purpose is always the best.
Blessings to you!
Lynn
